Attention Applicants – Florida Atlantic University SAT Score and GPA Requirements

Florida Atlantic University (FAU) was founded in 1961. The main campus is located in Boca Raton, Florida. Since its opening in 1964, the university has spread across 6 locations and houses over 30,000 students. It has achieved special distinction in the field of biomedical research, ocean engineering, entrepreneurship, nursing and honors education

Considering applying to FAU?

Be aware about the admission statistics. FAU admissions are somewhat selective and have an acceptance rate of 59%. Out of every 100 applicants, 59 were selected. By selective it implies, if you have decent scores and if you impress them you have a high chance of getting selected.  Academically it has average requirements and admits students who are in the top 40% range.

SAT requirements:

The University requires applicants to submit their SAT or ACT scores. Students who get through the admission process have an average ACT score between 21 and 26 and an average SAT score between 1080 and 1240. To know more on FAU SAT requirements, you can refer to Campusreel. The website contains detailed information on the FAU admission process.

During the academic year 2017-2018, 78% of students admitted submitted their SAT scores. The university doesn’t require the SAT writing section. It participates in the scorechoice program according to which, the admission office will take into account your highest score from each individual section.

SAT score analysis:

The 25th grade SAT score is 1080 while the 75th grade SAT score is 1240.  SAT score of 1080 places you in the below average range and a score of 1240 means your score is above average. You need a score of at least 1080 to stand a chance for admission.

GPA requirement:

The average score is 3.39 which make the university extremely competitive for GPAs. A GPA of 3.99 implies FAU requires you to score top marks in your class. You’ll have to score straight A’s in all classes to stay in par with other applicants.

You are also required to have taken many AB or IP classes to prove your ability to excel in academic challenge. If you are currently a junior/senior, it is tricky to work on your GPA score from now on. You can compensate it by scoring high in SAT to prove you are prepared to take on college academics.

Admission chances:

It accepts over half of its applicants and the admission process is moderately competitive. If you have a strong academic performance, your admission is guaranteed. Students whose SAT/ACT scores and GPA fall under the school’s average range have a high likelihood of being accepted.

  • SAT score of 1158 or above has high chance of admission
  • SAT score of 1240 will nearly work if your average GPA is 3.99

Additional weight is given to IB, AP, and Honors courses during the admission process. Certain programs including Business, Architecture, Nursing, Engineering, and Music have additional requirements. Apart from SAT/ACT scores and GPA, the admission also relies on your coursework difficulty, letters of recommendation, extracurricular activities and personal statements.
